There has been much debate over whether the Oriental Roller (OR) is a Flying Breed, Show Breed, or both. This goes way back to the 1800's when pigeon shows began in Europe. Today, many European Countries have their own standards for Oriental Rollers and, in the United States, there are currently two published standards in the National Pigeon Association Book of Standards; the "Oriental Roller" (which is a show-type) and the "Flying Oriental Roller" (FOR) which follows what most flying fanciers prefer. Both breeds can fly and perform but the focus of one is the show cage, and the other performance in the sky. The UORA recognizes and supports both standards.
